Ann Arbor moves to protect parkland from potential future sales
Concentrate, 8/20/2008
Recreational space is on its way to becoming more secure in Ann Arbor.
City residents will decide during November's election whether to allow the sale of city parkland and recreation space only with voter approval. The controversial initiative is meant to make it harder for the city to sell parkland.
One loophole says parkland can be sold if it is removed from the city's master plan. Otherwise, if it's a park, recreation or green space it can only be sold if voters say so.
A similar initiative failed to make it onto the city's books last year.
