Hospitals across the nation are busy digitizing medical records so their physicians can readily access the information. The problem is most of these systems are created independently, meaning they don't know how to talk to each other.
That's where
CareEvolution
comes in. The Dexter-based firm creates the software that allows one hospital's data center to speak to another's. So if you go to the University of Michigan Hospital's ER but your primary physician is through St. Joesph Mercy Hospital, CareEvolution lets the ER doctor access whatever files your primary physician has on you.
"I call it a plumbing company," says Vik Kheterpal, principal of CareEvolution. "It's a healthcare information plumbing company."
And it's a virtual firm, too. About half of the company's 14 people live in the Ann Arbor area. The others live as far away as London, Seattle and Toronto. CareEvolution's secretary is based out of Anapolis, Maryland.
In the last 18 months the company has doubled its employee base to 14 and plans to hire another five people by the end of the year. It's also working with the University of Michigan to set up an internship program.
"We are behind at the moment," Kheterpal says. "Our growth is at a bottle neck as we're looking for skilled software engineers. We would love to hear from some qualified people."
